Yes, you have to register with RottenNeighbor.com in order to post. If you do not register, you will be asked to do so when you try to post.
From any page, click "Register" in the top right-hand corner. Create a username and then click "Verify" to ensure it is not already taken. If your username is available, create a password. Enter your email address and click "Verify.". Enter the security code (if you cannot see the numbers, refresh your page for a new code). Click "Create User" and you will then be at the "Welcome to RottenNeighbor!" page.
From the home page, click "log in." In the forgotten password section, enter your username or email address and click "Send my password." Your password will be sent to the email address you entered at registration.
After you submit a post, click somewhere else on the map. Depending on your rating, either a green house (rad) or a red house (rotten) will appear. Click on the house to view your post.
There are three ways to view the map: map, satellite and hybrid.
When the mouse is on the map, the icon becomes a hand. Clicking and holding down the button enables the hand to "grab" the map, and moving the mouse will move the map.
To zoom in or out, use the scroll button on your mouse or click the "zoom in/zoom out" buttons on the left side of the map.
Click on the red marker for the pop-up to appear and post in your desired location. Double click the map in a different location if you would like to post in another location.

You may only flag a post for removal once. Each time you flag a post, your user IP address is recorded as a reference in our database. If you try to flag a post from the same IP address more than once, you will receive a message saying: "You have already flagged this post."
"Social media" means you can submit a link to a post to the following social networking sites: del.icio.us, dig, reddit, pligg and yahoo. You must have a user account with any of these sites to submit a link.

On the "Modify" page, you can change your profile setting to private or public, and change your password. Make your changes and click "submit."
Setting your profile to private means whenever you submit a post or comment, your username will appear as "private." People will be able to read your posts, but they won't know the actual username that posted them.
To set your profile to private, log in and click "profile." Under "personal info," click "modify." On the modify profile page, check "make my profile private" and then enter your email address. Click "submit." Your profile will be updated and will show your username as "private."
To make your profile public (and show your username), log in and click "profile." Under "personal info," click "modify." On the modify profile page, uncheck "make my profile private" and click "submit." Your profile will be updated and display your username.
Click any of the "Recent Posts" in the box on the right side of the page. On the home page, click the orange "Recent Posts" tab, and then "See all recent posts" in the bottom right corner.
You can see any of the posts for a particular city or state by searching the map or by clicking on "site map" in the bottom right corner of every page, and then clicking on a city or state.
Search the map for your neighborhood. On your results page, scroll the page down under the map. All the posts for your neighborhood are listed under the map. Click on any of the titles to read more about a post.
On the post detail page, you can rate each category in the neighborhood rating box by clicking the amount of stars corresponding with your vote. For instance, if you want to give a neighborhood one star for noise and three stars for appearance, click the first star under noise and the third star under appearance.
You can rate each category (noise, safety, appearance, services, traffic and overall) once per neighborhood.
You can rate three separate neighborhoods per day.
Neighbor navigation provides information on the community, nearby establishments and home values surrounding a particular neighborhood. Click on one of the three icons in the lower right corner of the post title box on a post page to find information on any particular neighborhood.
Click the icon of the information you want to view and a box will pop up providing the information. To close the box, click "close" in the upper right corner or press the "Esc" key.
Interesting Neighbors are determined by the number of votes and comments your post receives. Therefore, the more popular your post, the higher you climb.
You can view all the movies and photos that users have uploaded with Rotten Media. You can also vote for any of the movies or photos other users have uploaded. You can view each category according to the most recent, highest rated or most viewed.
From the home page, click either the Rotten Media tab at the top of the page or the yellow "Rotten Media" tab in the upper left box. On the Rotten Media page, choose whether you want to view movies or photos by clicking the movie or photo tab. Watch any of the movies right there on the page or click on them to watch on YouTube. To read more about a photo, click on the picture.
Next to each movie and photo are the words "rate this media" with a set of stars underneath. Click the amount of stars that corresponds with your vote. For instance, if you want to give a movie five stars, click the fifth star. If you only want to give it two, click the second star. An average of all the votes will show for the number of stars.

With Neighbor Notes you can anonymously send real mail to your neighbors to view a post. It’s another way of letting your neighbors know you have something to say without the hassle of dealing with the city or police. As long as you don’t include any identifiable information in your note, this service is completely anonymous.
Make sure you are on the page of the post you want to send and click "Send Neighbor Note." Fill out the form and click "submit." Print out the generated Neighbor Note PDF file. Fold the note according to the instructions, add a stamp and mail it. Your recipient(s) will receive their Neighbor Note with your message and instructions to view the referenced post.
If you received a Neighbor Note and want to view the referenced post, go to www.neighbornotes.com and enter the message code displayed in your Neighbor Note. Click "See Note" to view your referenced post.

Click on the red and black icons to view the information balloon, and then click "read more" to go to the post page for more information.
